My first year of teaching was at the NICS school in Songtan (now Pyongtaek), S. Korea. That was quite a year! We were a school full of new teachers, Christian, & single. Meanwhile, we were right beside Osan Air Force Base and Camp Humphries Army Base. The base was full of young men. Need I say more? Many of the Christian military guys came to our church (Mission Baptist)- Songtan is a small town. The other teachers all met their men that year in that church – what did we have, six weddings the next year? I’d already met my man – he was waiting for me back home.:)
Many, if not most, of those young men we met that year have fought &/or are fighting for our freedom in Iraq these days. They now are married & have families they are leaving behind for a year or more at a time.
One soldier’s wife, a fellow teacher that first year, (we were roomates that year as well) sent this video of his unit to me. – Minnesota Heroes – He’s from MN, so they settled there. We have a lot in common – homeschool three children each, the whole MN & Korea thing, etc. The Lord had our paths cross “coincidentally” this last July & it was so good to be able to catch up face to face. We bumped into each other at a church camp picnic. Mind you, there were less than 100 people there & we had no idea either would be there!
Pray for their family as they spend this year so far away for freedom!
“Greater love has no man than this, than to lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13)
