“Easy pea-zie, lemon squeezie.” -what Callie claims Math is.

“I ain’t gonna study no, no more! Ain’t gonna study no-no more…” – Anders’ rendition of the latest song Callie brought home from school for us. We’ve had Down By the Riverside on the brain all week! Oh, and he is now a worthy opponent in Battleship and Uno. Even though Callie always opts for Life, her all time favorite game.

Nate claims someone mysteriously stole his band book. YIKES!! Now how can that poor boy practice?! One wonders. He is scheduled to play at the ice cream social Saturday in spite of the devastating loss.

Jack is on the move; an official crawler. His specialties: the line up of shoes by the door, the bottom shelf of all bookcases, & the magazine basket. He’s also been know to try to juggle cans found on the bottom shelf in the pantry.

We’re working on getting family pictures taken for a belated Mother’s Day gift. We are in need of a sunny day, time to go to the park with our nice clothes assembled, and a third party to snap the shot to all converge at the same time. This may take us well into summer to accomplish. Better late than never, huh?

Our home is officially on the market. Had several people through it this week. I thought I’d really hate that part, but so far, it’s forcing me to keep the house presentable at a moment’s notice & I really like that. Wish me luck in that area when school’s out!!!

Just discovered two things: 1) There’s a British isle called Mann – never knew that. The people there are Manx and I guess it’s a great place to make movies. Who knew? 2) Come to find out, Moondog, the quirky nickname Keith gave Nate years ago, was actually a real blind composer/inventor who lived homeless on the streets of NYC & apparently wore homemade clothing to resemble Thor, the Viking god. Fascinating. Oh, the wealth of information you collect when surfing while your sons sleep in.

This is Ander’s favorite rendition of our latest song. He says she looks like Grandma. My only question is which one. You be the judge…

Just found my crazy cousin out in California on Worshipsong.com! Trent Dean, check him out!!…

He’s been writing songs for decades, but this is the first I’ve heard his children’s stuff. Turns out he’s got several cute numbers! Look out Donut Man. :) (BTW, those cuties on the “album” with him when you click to hear a song below are his four sweet boys & awesome wife.)

This post goes along with the jello post a few months ago. There are some things you do because that’s how it’s always been done & you don’t bother thinking about a better way. Here are two more entries to the list…

1) Rather than cut up that rock hard acorn squash before cooking, toss it in the microwave as is (poke it a few times first like a potato so it doesn’t explode on you) for 15 minutes & it cooks up superbly!! Let it cool a while, then cut it up & scoop it out ready to eat. How easy is that!!? Callie, Anders, & I love squash, so this is a huge “ah-ha!” moment for me there. Perfect timing! We will be stocking up on acorn squash this winter.

2) Teach your children to tie their shoelaces the easy way. I never knew there was more than one way until I stumbled upon this website. The other day I spent literally five minutes teaching Anders how to tie his shoes! Jack will look like a genius among his peers as he ties his tiny laces with this new method. :) Here’s a shot of my kindergarten cutie on his big day…

In Korea, a big deal is made when a baby hits the 100 day mark. Today is Jack’s 100th day, so we got out the old camera to celebrate. The many faces of Jack…

Happy Baek-il, Little Guy. We’re glad you’re here!

We had our kitchen worked on last week – matching counter tops, tile on the floor, painted the cupboards, new sink & stove – the whole nine yards. A lot of the changes you really can’t see in the pictures, but they are so nice to have – an updated back splash area, matching wallpaper all around the kitchen, getting rid of that dumb fan/grill above that stove that didn’t work, hinges on the cupboards that match! We also had our two entry ways tiled & a few other odds & ends done around the house. I have before & after shots of the kitchen, but realized just now I have only before shots of the front door. So, tomorrow morning I’ll remedy that & try to get those on line for you, too.

Here’s the kitchen before…

And after…

With the best & most anticipated change in the neighborhood being…

…the NEW STOVE!!! Old Bessy, as I unaffectionately referred to the previous appliance, was older than me – I kid you not. Grandma bought her nigh unto 40 years ago. Her sister bought one exactly like it at the time. Aunt Dorothy’s turned out to be a lemon & conked out on her within a few years while Grandma’s kept on ticking. Yes, even the light in the oven still worked!! Even after all those mornings of fried eggs & dinners with gravy & mashed potatoes. Oh, the memories! But, alas, over the years, two of the burners had given way. The remaining two were precarious to say the least to cook on. But it still worked! It was tough for me to just throw it away as long as it was still working. But we finally did what needed to be done. Grandma would’ve wanted it that way. In fact, one of the last conversations I had with her was about that stove. She said, “Well, maybe you just need to get rid of it.” So, now Old Bessy has been replaced.

I think she needs a jazzy new fangled name like Apple or Fantasia. What do you think? Although, she is still a big bulky old fashioned stove model. Maybe Julia or something like that.

My Sweet Anders.

One year ago today you decided to give your great big heart to Jesus. What an exciting thing! I remember working on my hair in the bathroom & you came waltzing in to keep me company that morning. Sitting on the little stool, you started the conversation with how you loved the story of Jesus dying on the cross. I asked you if you knew why He died & you replied knowingly, “to take away my sin”. I asked you if you knew what sin was & if Jesus had ever sinned, etc. You knew all about it, talked about how you have sinned but don’t want to & you started expressing a desire to get rid of it. I asked if you knew what to do to get rid of sin & you knew right off, “Ask Jesus to take them away & come into my heart”. I told you that you could do that whenever you wanted to. You gave a quick reply that you wanted to NOW. Keith was in the next room reading, so I told you that whenever you really felt you wanted to do that, you could talk with Daddy about it & pray with him, thinking maybe you’d wait. But you ran right out to talk to Daddy. You & Daddy talked for another 20 minutes about Jesus & what He’s done for us on the cross. Then the three of us bowed together as you prayed to receive Jesus as your Savior. At first, you asked if Daddy could pray for you, but when we said only you could do it, you prayed without hesitation. Since then, you ALWAYS volunteer to pray at mealtime. You sure love to pray & we love to hear you talk to your Forever Friend, Jesus.

I am so thankful I could be the one to talk with you & see the look of sadness on your face over your sin, hear the reverence in your voice when you prayed to ask Jesus to be your Savior, the love & faith in your sweet brown eyes. It was a precious moment I will never forget. I’m thankful, too, that Daddy was there & we could share in that once-in-a-lifetime moment together with you.

You are one special boy, Andrew William. God has great plans for your life & I am so grateful to get to have a front row seat watching it unfold. There are some big changes ahead of you in the upcoming months with you being a school boy now & a new big brother to boot! This next year with you promises to be the most fun one yet. I love you more than you’ll ever know & pray God’s richest blessings on you as your legs grow longer & your spiritual roots grow deeper this year.

With Love,
Your Momma

Can you hear the giant sigh of relief coming from the direction of our house this weekend? School is winding way down – only four weeks left to go!! And Keith got word of acceptance into the doctoral program at Kent State! That means there’s another four or five years of hard work ahead there, but the ball is rolling. It feels so-o-o good to have plans set as far as that goes. Until he was officially accepted, all these classes he’d been taking were a bit nerve wracking – were they going to count? be worth taking? etc. And he has been working like a crazy man to pump up his vita, etc. to ensure acceptance. Now that he’s in, a lot of these “clubs” he’s been working with can be dropped & he can focus on his family, job, & classes only. That’s sounding so good!!!

Keith had already planned to take us on a family trip Saturday to Adena for Mother’s Day so we are all looking forward to that. Then Thursday, K & I get to have a marriage get-away to Nashville for a Weekend to Remember retreat! Mom’s hangin’ with the kids. The only other marriage retreat we’ve ever done was two months after Nate was born up in the hills of Korea & we were the ones who worked with Pastor planning the logistics – getting the rental setup, speakers scheduled, & planning/prepping the food! Have you ever tried feeding 20 couples in a foreign country for the weekend in the mountains & nurse a new baby? It was relaxing… NOT!! This one promises to be a bit more enriching for us.

Summer is so close, I can taste it!!!!!

We went to Salvation Army today (it’s 50% off on Wed.) to get some button down short sleeved shirts for Nate. We came back with five beautiful plaid shirts that are perfect for church or whatever, a pink purse for Callie to replace the one she can’t find from like a year & a half ago, and A BOW TIE for Anders.:) One buck!!! This is him running out the door the moment we got home, after first getting his white dress shirt & vest on. THAT is why I don’t want to spend much money on this kind of thing. But he is one proud little boy today. Never mind that he looks like a miniature Ike Godsey.

They had one bow tie in the whole store – a nice black (or maybe dark navy?) perfect one. It’s good quality, too, so I’m thinking it should last as long as he doesn’t lose it. Speaking of losing things, Nate lost another tooth on the way to the store. It’s a really good thing our tooth fairy gives out dimes or she’d have gone broke this week! Here’s Nate hanging out on Study Island showing me his freshly pulled tooth. Doesn’t he look relaxed & happy?

Anyway, all total, we spent 18$ & that included a cute little two piece baseball outfit for Anders that he doesn’t need but I couldn’t resist. He’s so into sports right now & I don’t think that’s going to go away any time soon with him.

Now, we probably should start thinking about getting Callie some new pj’s, don’t you think? Kids. They just keep growing!

Callie lost two teeth yesterday – the ones on either side of the two front teeth she recently lost. Yikes! Four teeth out all in a row. Luckily the two front ones are starting to pop in, but it sure looks… remarkable.

To see what else she’s been up to lately, see Flickr to the left. In Science, she just finished up studying the body systems (nervous, digestive, respiratory, etc.) & is starting the plant unit so we started our germination baggies today – one in the fridge, one in the drawer, and one in the window sill – to see if cold or dark make a difference. Amazingly, she doesn’t remember us doing this last year. She loved it then, but I guess that was such a long time ago to her. She will get to be amazed all over again (as I am every spring) at the wonder of God’s beautiful creation.
