Yeah, I read the Drudge Report & yes, I hear the alleged plan to leave Huckabee alone until he gets the nomination with the thought he can’t possibly win. Yes, I have noticed the DNC is not making enough noise over his recent rise. They really think they’re going to pull out a bunch of stuff to make me & others like me dislike him enough to stay home & vote after we were “foolish enough” to get him in as the GOP candidate. They really think we’re just a bunch of ignorant clods. Yeah, well, they thought that about George W. Bush, too, & last time I checked he’s been president for, what has it been again, two terms? Nuff said.
The DNC is under the delusion that all Americans HATE W. as much as they do. They see Huckabee as like Bush in so many ways they feel confident they can bring him down by comparing the two. If they are successful, it will only be because the GOP would play “too nicely” against them & actually have morals & standards unlike their opponent’s tactics. The only other reason would be if enough conservatives &/or Republicans would do the unthinkable & stay home on voting day to “send a message”. That would send them a message, all right. Note to the Dems = “you won”!
Just my humble opinion in the world of politics.
Okay, you all KNOW how I hate to get political & all, but you forced me to share my opinion, as much as I am hesitant to do so.
I am unashamedly conservative in my political views which leads me to be a Republican. I do not see conservatives in the other party at all so enjoy having a bit of a voice in choosing the nominee for the GOP (although by the time Ohio gets to vote, I have a feeling it will pretty much be decided, but that’s another thing all together).
Anywho, I share my political journey for Presidential election 2008 for your enjoyment. If you’re not interested, just hop off for today & tune back in for my next post.
At the “beginning” of the race some months ago, I heard Thompson was fairly conservative & would be a “down to earth”, Reagan-esque kind of guy. He subs for Paul Harvey, for crying out loud. What’s not to like there? I never looked super closely at what he stood for, so I could never really say I was for Thompson or anyone else. I have been hesitant to do that until now. It seemed too many things could happen & there wasn’t enough info out there on these guys.
Giuliani gives me a safe feeling as far as terrorism – he’s proved he can handle the pressure with 911. He was a ROCK, buddy (in contrast to Ray “schoolbus” Nagin during the New Orleans disaster). But, that’s as far as it goes with how comfortable I felt with him. After watching an interview with he & his wife, I was SURE he was not on my list! He came off like a nervous cat & said his wife could be in on cabinet meetings if she wanted. I don’t think so. Next. I’ve never liked McCain – too much of a hothead for me. I could just see him flying off the handle inappropriately at too many events over a four year period. How embarrassing for our country. Ron Paul, when you look at what he “stands FOR” is nothing. I’d heard he was against everything & when I checked out his website, it’s true – against taxes, the war, big government, abortion, etc. What kind of stance is being against everything? You’ve got to stand FOR something, too. Just being against everything doesn’t tell me anything about what he would be for – not a serious choice. Thompson was as close as I could come, but something never sat well with me about him. I would vote for him if he was our choice, but is he the best one? Maybe. Anyone else? Romney is okay, but again, I can’t get totally excited about him either. He seems a little too artificially polished for me. I haven’t yet looked at his website, though. I have read his recent Faith in America speech & loved it. Have you? Definitely worth a read.
Meanwhile, Jess was talking about Huckabee like months ago. I see life pretty much “eye-to-eye” with her on a lot of things, so suspected I would like Huckabee, too, if she did. I clicked his site quickly & put it on my list of things to do one day – check in on him – but since he really didn’t seem to stand a chance, why waste the time? You can’t waste a vote on somebody who’s only going to realistically get like 5% of the vote. You might as well choose from people who have a fighting chance & he wasn’t one of them. The more I heard about him, though, the more impressed I was. When Dobson came on the air & said he could not in good conscience vote for Thompson due to his stance on the marriage amendment, that got me looking into Thompson more & feeling the same way. Dobson was saying we need to stick our necks out as conservatives & vote who we really want & leave the outcome to God, while others (Hannity, etc) were siding more with trying to vote in someone you can live with, even if he’s not the one you’re excited about, to try & get the most votes. I tended to side with Hannity until recently…
With Huckabee shooting up in the polls lately, he now has a real chance!! Is it possible that the conservative voice IS bigger than we tend to think in America today? Keith & I hopped on the old internet to really check Huckabee out. It couldn’t be any easier to see what he stands for on all the major issues, & right down the line, I like him! I like where he stands on: the war, abortion, family, education, health care, environment, etc. I like him!!
I have heard some say we can’t be a one issue voter, referring to & assuming anyone who would vote for Huckabee would be only voting for the abortion issue or family issues. Meanwhile, the same people have been heard to say they wouldn’t vote for so-&-so because of their stance on immigration. How is that any different? Doesn’t that make a person a “one issue voter” if they are not voting for someone because of their stance on immigration or taxes? I see no difference.
Well, to wrap it up, when it comes right down to it, I will vote. To not vote is to silence your voice. It doesn’t send any message except that people don’t care which for my part is not true. I will vote for the Republican that wins the primary – many of the guys up in the GOP are very qualified. I DO NOT want Hillary or Obama in office thank-you-very-much. It will be very interesting if it ends up being Huckabee vs. Obama. And I have a sneeking suspicion it’s not out of the realm of possibility for Oprah to be his running mate – don’t you think she’d take him up on it if he asked her? That would be interesting!! We shall see.
I leave you with a few good bumper sticker jokes I’ve heard for any Democrats that might still be reading (yeah, right!). I share because they’re FUNNY…
“LBJ’s Great Society – one more decade ought to do it”
“We’re winning; let’s quit”
“Democrat victory through he defeat of the US”
“Vote early, vote often, que pasa!”
(Thanks, Rush, for those.)
